Amalia Umeda and Michał Aftyka are an improviser duo who began collaborating in 2021 as part of the Amalia Umeda Quartet.

Years of shared musical exploration have allowed them to develop an extraordinary level of intuitive understanding, enabling them to fluidly navigate between delicate acoustic nuances and expressive, raw improvisation. Their artistic inspirations draw from diverse ethnic music traditions, deep human emotions, and the organic sounds of nature. Expanding the sonic boundaries of the violin and double bass through sonic exploration and continuous dialogue, the duo creates multidimensional soundscapes.

The duo made its debut at the Wesoła Jazz Festival in 2022, and in 2025, the ensemble performed at the European Parliament in Brussels.
